Deferred Payments, or ‘Offline Mode’, is a portion of our software that will help you take credit cards even though you have no internet. While this may be necessary, it is still a dangerous method of excepting payments. Before I go into telling you how to enter deferred payment mode, please be aware of the following:
- While in Offline Mode, your business is taking all credit and debit cards, regardless of whether or not the cardholder has any credit or money available.
- You may have to void off payments that decline when you come back online.
- While in “Deferred Mode”, you cannot do End of Day until all deferred payments have been processed.
For any customers who use EMV chip readers, and customers who have Mercury Secure:
- While on the logo screen, swipe a manager card and click on ‘Deferred Payments’.
- Enter Today’s Security Code. This can be obtained by calling our support number at 1 (877) 594-8767. Press ‘1’ for Emergency Support.
- Press on the ‘Entered Deferred’ button.
- To verify you are in offline mode, you will see “Deferred Mode” in big yellow letters on the bottom of the screen. You can’t miss it.
- You will need to reload now on all terminals or wait for two minutes and the terminal will reload itself.
To exit offline mode:
- In the manager menu, click on ‘Deferred Payments’.
- Exit deferred payment mode by clicking ‘Exit Deferred’.
- Process your deferred payments by clicking on ‘Process Deferred’.
- While in the processing deferred menu, click on the blue arrows to process the corresponding check. This is when you will enter the credit card tips.
- If you get a Declined message while processing a payment, you will need to re-open that check back up, void the payment, then comp the meal. Don’t forget to close to exact cash once you have a zero balance.
- Once all tickets are closed, you can now run checkouts and do End of Day.
For any customer using a legacy card processor:
- In the onePOS Management Console, go to Setup, Payments.
- Click on a credit card name and click on ‘Edit’.
- Click on ‘Card Info’ and enter today’s security code. This can be obtained by calling our support number at 1 (877) 594-8767. Press ‘1’ for Emergency Support.
- Enter an amount into the ‘Auth Floor’ field. This is the authorization floor, and any amount below the number specified will automatically clear. The card information will be held until it can be processed later.
- Go back to step two until all credit cards have been adjusted.
- Once completed, close out of everything and go to a FOH terminal. You will need to ‘Reload Now’ on all terminals.
Warning!
DO NOT RESTART TERMINAL 1 while in offline mode. Doing so could prevent you from accepting any cards until you get internet back.
Warning!
DO NOT BATCH while in offline mode. You can still run End of Day, just make sure not to batch.
To exit offline mode:
